Tokyo Live Show KH3 Recap!

The presentation started with the VAs for Sora and Aqua, as well as the co-director for Kingdom Hearts 3! Nomura was also present, but just his voice (They referred to him as the voice above, or heavenly voice).
They begin with explaining the story and how the first game came out 16 years ago. (Utada Hikaru was 19yrs old at the time!) Nomura said that within these 16 years he didn’t expect to make this many games, though he knew they made something interesting.

Sora’s VA was in middle school second year when he first voiced Sora, and in KH2 was in high school third year. He’s grown up with Sora! He loves this game and is a huge fan of the story, and is so excited to do more and hopes to do more. Aqua’s VA was in KH2 as a final fantasy minor character, before becoming Aqua. The co-director was a part of the series from the Final Mix games and onward.

When Nomura was asked to explain the story, he said it’s impossible. It’s 16 years of content and so big, it’s hard to talk about it! That’s why they made the lil recaps available on youtube and the square enix site!

Please note: talks of perhaps changing the main character (Sora) were said, but they have no plans to end Sora’s story and want to continue his story for as long as they can!!

Now, we move onto gameplay. 

– In any world, you can use keyblade abilities from specific worlds anytime. Basically; if you are in Pirates World, you can still use Frozen, BH6, etc Keyblade abilities !! It’s very freeform. (Making the game is hard – CoDirector). 

– We also get Amusement Park themed abilities called Attraction Flow. These range from Merry-go-round, teacup, and water ride attacks! 

– As for teammates in another world, you will have special combos with those teammates (baymax, woody, etc) where there is NO set prompt and you can attack however you want within the time limit. Again, very freeform. Marshmellow from Frozen is actually an enemy at first, but when you defeat him he becomes ally! 

– Summons got a huge upgrade!! The character is actually made of magic, and actively assist Sora (as shown with Simba ; Sora rides him around to deal damage!). We will have a lot of summons in game! 

– Gummi Ship time has become open world! There is a freeform open exploration mode to allow you to explore space, and the boss battles in gummi ship return as well! (This isn’t a minigame anymore!!)

– Speaking of Minigames! Remy’s Restaurant is available in Twilight Town ! You make food and give yourself powerups based on what you made. 

We also saw a cutscene of the Dark!Aqua shown in trailers fighting Sora. It was ingame combat, so we can expect to fight her eventually. Riku was no where in sight. Nomura said he didn’t want to show too much and reveal everything though, and as such the clip was short.

After that we get into the Tsum Tsum app game and the collab with KH, Aqua and Kairi will be available! The VAs also played onstage the app.

Q&A

– Nomura gave us rough estimates of the BBS team ages! Terra is in his 20s, Aqua in her 18s, Ventus in his 16s. Young Xheanort is in his 16-20s, while Master Xheanort is 80. 
– Sora’s VA said voicing Sora is easy as he grew up with Sora, but Vanitas was a bit hard because of how dark and deep sounding he is. 
– Aqua’s VA’s fav scene is where Aqua gives the wayfinders to Terra and Ven under the starry sky!
– Secret Movie CONFIRMED for KH3, but Nomura is doing his best to keep it a HUGE secret so people do not get spoiled on the internet (SO NO LEAKS!)
