When he first notices the Heartless falling from the sky, he almost looks shocked/sad:
But then little by little
His expression changes to anger
Note how different his expression is in this last screenshot than it was in the first. His eyebrows are scrunched up, his teeth are gritted, and his fists are clenched:
Then, in this later snippet, he braces himself for the fight:
The anger/frustration are clearly visible on his face:
I wonder if his anger/frustration is directed more towards the enemies themselves or the people who are likely behind this spike in Heartless, Nobodies, and Unversed…
Not everything was all doom and gloom though. We got this sweet shot of him running to fight the Dark Baymax:
Clearly he’s enjoying fighting with Jack again, as seen in this shot:
He seems pretty shocked by Rapunzel’s magical hair (also Goofy looks like he’s having the time of his life):
The wonder and awe on his face are clearly visible in this shot, and he’s holding his feet up in the air a little and leaning back on his hands in an excited pose:
And here, he kneels to talk to Pooh in this shot:
Which is reminiscent of when he did the same in KH2:
Which brings me to a character quirk Sora has.
When he’s talking to someone smaller than him, he lowers himself to their level so they can converse as equals.
He does the same thing when he’s talking to Chirithy:
This is really sweet because if you ever work with children, you might hear that if you want to level the playing field and help a kid feel less intimated by big scary grownup you, it really helps to squat so that you’re closer to their eye level. This sends the message that, “I’m meeting you where you are and I value your thoughts and opinions. I’m not holding my size and height advantage over you. You matter and I want you to see that.”
And Sora does this instinctually, without anyone having to tell him to. He doesn’t hold his height or strength advantage over anyone, ever. He goes out of his way to make his smaller friends feel safe and comfortable around him.
This is a huge contrast to this guy…
…who just loves to lord his imagined superiority over other people and demonstrates it by always placing himself higher than everyone else. Sometimes literally.
But Sora does the opposite.
He isn’t too proud to beg when his friends are on the line. He and Xehanort once again show how they are such good foils for each other.
Now for their climactic meeting in KH3! I can hardly wait!
