Yooo i thought they straight up made it up for the game?? But apparantly its actually part of the disney crossover! It’s a novelty flavour sold at one particular disneyworld park that the game’s director really loved as a child. Apparantly he was super happy that he got the go-ahead to include it, there were issues about trademarks initially. I guess nobody actually expected to be asked if the game could include specific disney merchandise as well as the characters? But it turned out to be a good decision because the popularity of this previously niche ice cream SKYROCKETED! Now it gets sold at more disneyworlds and millions of fans get to cry over roxas and xion, lol! It was a really great idea to make the damn icecream a major plot point, like man he really succeeded in making us all love it as much as he did as a child!
But darrrrn this means its impossible to buy it anywhere unless i went to tokyo disney. Its stuck being a mystery to us western fans! There’s lots of recipes to try and recreate it, but i have no way of knowing how accurate it is. It would be really easy to mess it up and over-salt it and just.. Never even know! I still wanna try it but i wanna try the actual original someday too, to know if i got anywhere close.
Oh and Axel’s voiceactor actually released his own personal recipe in an interview!! And suggested using blue food dye if you wanna make a super accurate cosplay version. “I wish I could share this with Roxas and Xion” Awww! Man so many KH voiceactors are really passionate about their role and really kind to the fans! And man now i wanna see a scene of Axel/Lea practising making his own homemade icecream for when he manages to save his friends someday. Let me have cute domestic antics with fire dad and his icecream kiddos! LET THEM ALL BE ALIVE AGAIN TOGETHERRRR
I’ve made some myself using the recipe from Nerdy Nummies and it was pretty good, though it needed a touch more sea salt and I burnt the milk ever so slightly. Both my fault lol
