Now that it’s pretty much confirmed that it’s not aquanort but dark aqua
I’m a bit annoyed we didn’t get it at the end of 0.2
We could have at least seen her eyes flicker yellow or the tips/top of her hair slowly turning white and her acknowledging that it’s an effect of the darkness if this really was supposed to be obvious.
But this is somewhat of an issue with this series, that it doesn’t use “show don’t tell” effectively.
I think the main issue was that Blank Points had already established Aqua meeting Ansem and being okay, thus they wrote themselves into a corner with that. Although, did the A fragmentary passage secret ending not come with Blank Points? It didn’t have Darkqua but it did plan 0.2 in some way already
And yeah, had Nomura just NOT given us all the uplifting Mickey speech, Darkqua would have been a concept we all had anticipated. I mean it makes sense that when she survives 10 years AND meets Ansem the Wise after 11/12 that she survives the little bit before Riku and Mickey finally come.
I guess I am more miffed about the fact that Nomura is so casual about it -.-
But I agree, Darkqua (hint) at the end of 0.2 and if we get him Soranort at the end of DDD would have been amazing cliffhangers.
We kind of got a big hint imo when she talked to mickey about it.

which actually, at this point i was convinced there would be something happening. I just wasn’t considering the visual change.
But
I agree that the ending of 0.2 buried this a bit. I also believe they could have adjusted the lines a bit to something like even if the darkness takes over she won’t give in or something similar.
And I don’t see how
meeting ansem would have made it safe for her? There wouldn’t be
anything he could do or is there? Or you mean that they established that
scene and couldn’t alter her look because of this then I see your
point. Still, we could have gotten yellow eyes for a split second. It
would have been enough.
I know there were hints, but the pep talk Mickey gave her and her ultimately making sure Riku would be protected by Mickey gave her this whole “I’ll be your wayfinder” epic moment that showed us again how strong she and her light are.
What I mean by Ansem is that we know Ansem only returns to the RoD during the ending of KH2, so another year after Mickey left the RoD with Riku. At that time, Aqua is okay and I just kind of assumed (which of course might be wrong!) that Aqua and Ansem continue to chill at the Dark margin until they’re saved. I mean I kind of took for granted that the Dark margin is safe, maybe it isn’t and Ansem was attacked there and he and Aqua got separated and losing another person who she couldn’t protect might have affected her psyche furthermore (if not even Xemnas is somehow to blame, we know he can enter and leave the Dark margin and did so before).
You really can’t start singing “Let’s See How Far We’ve Come” regarding KH3′s beautiful graphics until you remember where some of these guys started: on the Gameboy Advance as talksprites
To this day I still wonder where this “Demyx is a precious cinnamon roll” characterization came from. I like Demyx, I really do. He is not my favorite, but he is somewhere in the upper middle, so it’s not I want to make him look bad. Because the reason I liked him was because he wasn’t a precious cinnamon roll. At first I thought, maybe it’s because people only played KH2, but not Days? But then, even in KH2 we can see his dark and morbid side, like he drops the act of that lazy, goofy and frightened guy after he realized that it simply doesn’t work with Sora and coldy adresses him as a traitor before the fight, just to show that he actually CAN fight, even though he claimed that he couldn’t before. And in Days, how he says that he is happy that the Castle Oblivion Orga member died because they were annoying and all, how he ditches Roxas on every mission and stuff. He is lazy, rude and to a degree morbid and cocky despite his chill seeming outwards appearance. (And I think that he gets along with Xigbar also fits into this, because in that regard they are kinda similar) There is literally no point in the games were I thought “Aw, he is a precious cinnamon roll”, so… where does this come from? I like this rude and cocky Demyx, I don’t want him to be super nice and all but I have the feeling most of the fandom sees him that way and I am confused why it is like that.

That’s certainly part of it.
But it also perpetuates him being stupid/naive, which we all know isn’t entirely true (he’s good at recon, he just doesn’t write very thorough reports)
Also consider how many people both in universe and out truly think he’s not even dangerous. Stupid, lazy, annoying as all get-out, cowardly… but never actually a threat or force to be reckoned with (and then they spend like… hours on his boss fight but that’s too much salt and I digress).
So few people in the Org like each other; it’s an absolute clusterf*ck of personalities and motivations, and the Org reacts negatively to Demyx pretty frequently (Roxas is at least semi-often kinda shitty and mean behind Demyx’s back in Days, though Axel is quick to shut him down, and it’s not like Demyx is mean to Roxas).
I think insofar as the lazy nice guy act is an act, it’s not as though that’s not who he is, it’s just that it’s his most-oftenly-used side of his personality. The darker side, I think, is more likely to be the “front,” almost gritting his teeth and doing the thing he has to do, even though multiple times he’s said he has no desire to do that specific job. And, in addition, Sora (and Donald) definitely pushed him toward fighting at that point.
(endcap: But I’m a big fan of Demyx basically no matter what, so I’m aware of my biases hehe.)
No but what if Demyx is the only one who doesn’t get Norted because he’s lazy and Xehanort thinks he’s better off mooching off the good guys. And then he just crashes at the castle and never does anything and it annoys the heck out of Ienzo.
Like I know Demyx is probably gonna get norted but it’s such a bad idea on Xehanort’s part. There are so many better candidates XD
